Injury Prevention

The Modoc County Injury Prevention Program addresses injury prevention for Modoc County residents through presentations, outreach, and collaborations with our county entities such as USFS, Cal Fire, Alturas Police Department, and CHP. Topics include swim safety, bike safety, fire safety, winter safety, stranger danger, etc.

Bike Helmet Law
California Law requires that anyone under the age of 18 must wear a helmet when riding a: bicycle, skateboard, scooter, or skates.

Head injury is the leading cause of death in bicycle crashes and accounts for more than 60 percent of bicycle-related deaths, more than two-thirds of bicycle-related hospital admissions, and about one-third of hospital emergency room visits for bicycling injuries. Helmets can reduce the risk of head and brain injury by 85%.

Always wear a properly fitted helmet each time you ride.
Replace any helmet that has been involved in a crash or is damaged.
Always buckle your helmet and follow the rules of the road.
We strongly encourage all cyclists, regardless of age, to always wear a properly fitted bike helmet.
