Perinatal Services for Modoc County Women

Modoc County offers free confidential services for women who may be pregnant:

  • Pregnancy testing/preconception counseling at Public Health is available by going to the front desk and asking for a nurse.
  • You do not need to tell the front office staff why you are there. If a nurse is not available at that time, please ask to schedule a time to meet with a nurse.   

Topics and Services:

  • Education on healthy lifestyle choices before pregnancy
  • Information on birth control options and plan B
  • Referrals to local clinics for Family Pact services
  • Free condoms
  • Prescription for folic acid (cost is covered for those who have MediCal)
  • Counseling and referrals for adoption and abortion services

Free confidential services for pregnant women:

  • Home visits by a Public Health Nurse
  • Education about how to keep yourself and your baby healthy during pregnancy
  • Videos and books about pregnancy, labor, delivery, and baby care
  • Gas vouchers for out of county prenatal appointments for women who have MediCal
  • First 5 New Parent Kits for women in their 3rd trimester
  • Education on childbirth, postpartum care, and newborn care

 Free confidential services for postpartum women

  • Breastfeeding support in the home or at the office
  • Weight and jaundice checks for baby
  • Gas voucher for out of county postpartum medical appointment for women who have MediCal
  • Education on postpartum, breastfeeding and newborn care
